Mini Moto Bikes

Mini moto bikes originated in the UK over ten years ago. The first bikes were made using garden machinery. They are true replicas of larger super bikes. They use the same type of tires, race striping bodywork, and bright colors are always used.

Generally they are 15 to 18 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 35 to 55 pounds. They have all the high performance accoutrements as their larger counterparts. Recently there have been advancements in engineering and they range in price from $200.00 to $2,000 depending on the make and model.

They are reportedly fun to drive. They have a short wheelbase and low weight which means they can make quick turns and since they are low to the ground, it makes for a thrilling ride!

To be safe, it is recommended that you wear gloves, elbow and knee pads and a helmet when riding. More and more adults are buying them and they certainly aren’t for kids anymore. Although young riders as young as age 6 can ride them.

There are basically two types of moto bikes, a two and a four stroke engine. The advantage of a two stroke engine is that it has twice the power. A two stroke engine has to be mixed with oil and gas. They do not use gas as efficiently and they cause more pollutants.

The four stroke engine is more efficient and pollutes less. They are generally not as popular because they are not as fast as two stroke engine bikes.

If you are riding any of these bikes, it is important to wear a helmet. Although some riders find them restrictive and ‘not cool’ they do provide protection. As they say, better safe than sorry. Almost all motor crashes, in which the riders are not wearing helmets end up with serious head injuries or death.

In Canada, it is against the law not to wear a helmet. In the United States, the law varies by state. The helmet provides a great deal of protection. The helmet has an inner and outer shell. The outer shell protects the head from an impact and provides overall protection. The inner shell provides a lining of foam that helps absorb any impact and provides comfort to the rider. Generally, helmets are made out of fiberglass or injection molded plastic.

Some people use them for recreational purposes and ride them in parks, private rural land, gardens and local areas. It is recommended that you have a clear open area so you can ride fast and do not have to be concerned about running into anything or anybody.

Ultimately, safety should be the ultimate concern. Although these bikes are small they do pack a great deal of power and can be dangerous. It recommended that full safety gear be worn including a helmet, gloves and pads.
