Mini Motobikes
These are miniature versions of motorcycles literally. They are designed and characterized to be mini versions of larger bikes. They traditionally have a four stroke engine that uses a chain to turn the rear wheel. The engine is similar to one used in a lawn mower.
However, lawnmower engines cannot be used to replace a min bike engine because the crankshaft is different. They are small and low to the ground which makes them a fun bike to drive but, they need to be driven defensively because they are not easily seen by other drivers.
Most of the newer models have a two stroke engine although electric powered scooters are still common. The two stroke model is noisy and makes a buzzing noise.
The history of moto bikes date back to go karts. They were originally made of small parts found here and there. They were originally called pit bikes because they were used by drag racers to get around the track in early 1950’s. They are economical, portable and maneuver very well.
Today, they are much more sophisticated and can be upgraded and customized. They handle much like a motorcycle but can take corners quicker and they are smaller and easier to navigate.
They accelerate quickly and the speeds can be modified depending on the options and upgrades chosen. The speeds generally are up to 40 mph.
A 2 stroke engine operates at a higher speed and a higher temperature. A water coolant option can be added which will increase the cylinder life. If the bike is driven hard, the cylinders will need to be replaced every couple of years.
The mixing ratio of gas to oil on a pocket bike varies. Most generally it is 50 to 1 or 40 to 1. Be sure to speak to a knowledgeable salesman or read the owners manual to find out the exact requirement. If not, you can seriously damage the engine. Pumped gas is used although a premium grade is recommended.
They are certainly an efficient and convenient form of transportation and usually are 38-47 inches long and weigh less than 50 lbs. They can be stored like sports equipment and can fit in a car or backseat. Moto bike races is one of the fastest growing sports.
Remember that moto bikes are not toys and should be ridden safely. The electric bikes can be ridden by children as young as 6. The street version bikes should be driven by children ages 16-18 and older. They are small and fast and are not easily seen by other drivers. It is recommended that they not be driven at night unless reflective clothing and stickers are worn.
Before you get on your bike, make sure all pieces and parts are working correctly. Make sure there is enough air in the tires, and that you have plenty of gas. If you start it up, and something sounds amiss, don’t leave the driveway! Chances are if it sounds weird, something is wrong! Be careful and cautious.
